10:30 – 12:00 pm

Join the Community Design Workshop & the Mamakating Library as we welcome sculptor & poet Eric Baylin for a morning discussing and collaboratively making art.

Eric will talk about his own work as a sculptor and his evolution from using more traditional forms such as modeling and carving to a more improvisational way of working. In his more recent art, he uses natural materials such as tree branches and stones and allows the inherent forces of gravity and physical tension to hold sculptures in place.

Participants will experiment with using similar materials- branches and rocks, with the addition of string and the occasional nail- to create temporary structures using balance and tension as the means to build.

No previous experience with sculpture is necessary.
Instead, bring a willingness to “play around” and try things out.

The group will work both on collaborative pieces as well as individual works.
