In June the Mamakating Library was awarded a Category B beautification grant in the amount of $1500 by the Sullivan Renaissance Group. The grant money was used to purchase and install all of the new perennials and annuals around the building and for materials needed for the new outdoor patio. This patio, using the blue stone from the previous building, was designed and constructed by Jacob Lilley and his fellow scouts for his Eagle Scout project. At the Sullivan Renaissance Group grant awards ceremony held on August 10th at Bethel Woods, the Mamakating Library won three additional awards:
- 2nd Place Overall
- Judges Choice Award: Showing of Flowers
- Special Category B Award: Youth Involvement
The additional grant monies, totaling $9000, will be used to complete the landscaping around the library building and truly make the Mamakating Library the jewel of the Town.
Special and heartfelt thanks to the following from the Mamakating Library for helping to make this grant a resounding success:
- The Friends of the Mamakating Library
- Jacob Lilley
- The Eagle Scouts
- The Wurtsboro Arts Alliance
- The Wurtsboro Renaissance
We could not have done it without your help and dedicated support of the Mamakating Library.
